I am very pleased to let you know that we have been awarded a Community Green Flag for the seventh consecutive year, our first one being in 2017. The judge had lots of really positive comments to make about the work we do and was particularly impressed with the involvement of the Chellaston Scouts group. In fact the judge commented that “special praise should go to the Chellaston Scout group”. Many thanks to the scout leaders for making this possible.

A huge thanks to everyone for all the hard work over the course of the year. It is always good to know that the effort we put in to the reserve is recognised and appreciated.

The ‘Friends’ group are delighted to announce that for the fifth year running a Community Green flag has been awarded to the Nature Reserve. It is even more special this year as it has been a difficult and frustrating 18 months, with Covid restrictions meaning that many task sessions were cancelled and important work left undone.

Thankfully we are now able to carryout our usual monthly work parties and with the help of Derby Parks Volunteer group we are beginning to make in-roads into the backlog of work. Unfortunately, nature does not stand still and some of our wild flower glades have become very overgrown, hopefully over the coming months we will be able to restore these areas.

You may have noticed that the area around the Aston Lane gates has been revamped and is now looking a great deal better. The project isn’t complete and there is still work to be done over the coming months. Watch this space for further updates.
