We are pleased to announce that for the ninth year running, Chellaston Brickworks Local Nature Reserve has been awarded a Community Green Flag. This has been achieved by the work the ‘friends’ group carry out throughout the year, along with vital help from the Derby Parks Volunteers and local groups, including Chellaston Scouts and the Chellaston Litter Wombles for which we are extremely grateful. Sincere thanks to everyone involved.
Every year judges from the Keep Britain Tidy scheme inspect thousands of Parks, Nature Reserves and Green spaces to assess the work done to keep these special places in good order and the Green Flag Award is a mark that a good standard has been reached.
Each year more people visit our nature reserve and appreciate having such a lovely and historic green space on their doorstep. One of the aims of the ‘friends’ group is to ensure that the area remains an asset for residents and visitors for many years to come.
This year’s award ceremony was held in Smethwick near Birmingham and included an optional visit to the Guru Nanak Gurdwara, which is the largest Sikh temple outside of India.
